Age: I take students as young as four, depending on attention span and ability. I have had students of all ages: from 4 to 80.
What will my child learn and get from piano lessons?
- The ability to read music, count rhythm, and put it together by playing the piano.
- Self-Discipline by daily practice.
- Confidence to perform in front of others.
- Making your own music is fun.
How long does it take to play the piano?
- Depending on the age, ability, attention span, and the amount of practice a student puts in
- There are also levels about piano playing ability:
- Primer: plays with both hands, but not together. Recognizes notes on bass clef and treble clef, in the range of 2 octaves, and can count basic notes (1-3 years)
- Beginner: Plays with both hands together, recognizes notes on both clefs in 3-4 octave range, and can count 1/8th notes (1-4 years)
- Intermediate: plays with both hands together, plays in different keys (up to 3 flats and sharps), counts in all notes, rhythm is challenging, and can recognize 85% of notes on both clefs (5-6 years)
- Advanced: plays very well in all known keys, can count any type of notes, rhythm is difficult, recognize all notes in both clefs (up to 10)
What do I need at Home?
- Keyboard or piano
- Daily reminders to your child about practicing the piano. It is just like brushing teeth. I always have to remind my kids to brush their teeth, until a habit forms, and they do it on their own.
